We Are Slipping
We are slipping backward
Allowing the overlords
To take back the rights
That we have fought
So hard to gain
All for the illusion
Of health, wealth, and safety
We are slipping backward
Back to the alleys
So that help can be gained
That used to be covered
That used to be legal
That used to be our choice
We are slipping backward
Letting the clergy shape our
Laws and forcing their own
Ideals down the throats
Of we godless heathens
Or even just us women
Soon we will be
Involved in an inquisition
Convert or die
We are slipping backward
Education falls by the wayside
Ignorance is rewarded and
All the lies are spread
Far and wide
Lies become truth and
Truth and facts are
Demonized and the
People who speak the truth
Are punished
We are slipping backward
Falling back in time
The “good old days”
Never existed and yet
We strive to return to them
Damaging every bit of progress
We have ever made
We are slipping backward
Sliding into a hellish past
The future looks dark from here

It bothers me a lot that I am seeing the Republican Party attempting to strip the rights of women back to the dark ages. To utilize their own penchant for hyperbole, I have to say that they won't stop until women no longer have the right to hold property. In fact, all these people harping about how they are afraid of Shariah Law being taken up in the United States seem to be trying to go back to something that *resembles* Shariah Law.
Hey ladies!
Do you remember the days when a woman could be publicly shamed for having an affair via the pillory and a scarlet A?
Do you remember when your word was taken to be less than the man who raped you because you chose to look a little more desirable that night?
Do you remember when you couldn't get a job beyond being a teacher, a typist, a nurse, or a whore?
Do you remember when you couldn't speak up about someone harassing you in the workplace; you know, touching your ass, or making unwanted sexual advances (I am not talking about how it has been twisted into an easy way to witch hunt someone that a bitch doesn't like.)?
((Feel free to add more in the comments section!))
Well, you know what? I don't remember those times except from history. It's all due to the strong women who fought for all of these rights that I have now. Seeing these politicians attempt to strip them away in a cold, unfeeling legislature, talking about how this is against God and that is against God, makes me livid.
I demand the right to make choices about my own life.
I demand the right to feel safe in my work place.
I demand the right to wear what I choose, when I choose without fear of being assaulted.
I demand the right to be who I am without fear of persecution.
I demand the right to engage in consensual actions with one or more other adults without being persecuted for it.
I demand the right to love whom I love and not be prosecuted for it.
