State of the Hate I
On Current Events
Does anyone else tend to avoid watching the news? If they aren’t going apeshit over the latest bullshit from some random pop star or mediawhore diva, then they are digging into the personal stories from the latest natural disaster, or arguing about whether or not our President is a United States citizen.
Really?
We have the Republican party fighting to take away women’s rights over their own bodies. They are working towards cutting funding for planned parenthood citing lies all the way as well as trying to make it *okay* for doctors to lie to mothers who might be carrying babies who are going to be born with birth defects, all so that they might carry a potentially non-viable fetus to term. Yet, they don’t give two shits about what happens to that little person afterwards.
Those same people want to cut healthcare, which not everyone has. They want to increase the cost to the people barely scraping by as it is.
All the while, big business makes profit by shipping what used to be our jobs overseas… It makes me sick at heart.
These folks talk about the, “good old days.” What they mean is the 1950’s usually; a time when women were women (baby factories, secretaries, school marms and whores), and men were men (who could beat their wives and kids whenever they wanted and everyone turned a blind eye), and the country was *ours* (Those pesky colored folk knew their place, which was in the back of the bus, at a separate drinking fountain, and out of *our* schools!). I hear people say that they want *their* country back.
Well, you know what?
I want my country back.
I want every citizen to be treated equally under the law. That means gays can marry, everyone has to pay their fucking taxes, and corporations either aren’t people, or have to be taxed like everyone else, and not be able to get away with not pulling their weight if they are operating in this country. This means that no matter who you are, if you break the law, you are punished (that means you Paris Fucking Hilton.) under that same law. There should be no special treatment for fame, money, race, sexual orientation, or anything else that separates us from each other.
This country is diverse. We need to adapt to that. Sure, we have illegal immigrants, just like we always have. We have legal immigrants too, just like we always have. Those immigrants are “taking our jobs!”
Right now, it’s those damned Mexicans. It used to be the Wops (also known as Italians…), or Micks (Irish)… or Krauts (Germans). How about those Chinks and Japs (general Asian influx over different time periods)?
It’s all racial hatred and bigotry aimed at those *other* than us, no matter what we are to begin with. They have an accent, they are foreign, so they must be bad people.
I wish we could stop the hate and just live with one another… but that’s a separate rant.
Enough of my rambling and general bitching for now.
