Beating Writer's Block Through Form

Beating Writers Block Through Form

As I find my words starting to try to dry up on me, I found that a decent way to get through the writer’s block is to look up new poetry forms. It’s a challenge to work within the constraints of syllable count, rhyme scheme and even shape.
Even if you don’t write poetry normally, it can be a good way to get the juices flowing. Start by choosing a form (start with something easy, like a Haiku, Ketauta, Sedoka, Lanturne, Quintain, Nonet…) and describe what you see. Maybe change venues. Going to a park is fun to do and tends to have difference scenery than you might be seeing every day. People watching is also a good way to get inspiration for something
Remember: not every piece you write (short story, poem, novel) is going to be a ground-breaking work of art. Each piece *is* a journey for yourself though, even if it is only a journey of exploring something new in the form you’re writing.
