What the Fuck was I Thinking?

What the Fuck was I Thinking?

What in the world
Made me think that
It would be great good fun
To get into a debate
With an ignorant
Bloody-damned creationist?
I feel as if my IQ
Has dropped considerably
For the *joy* of the experience
Next time, I think
My time would be better served
Walking around with thumbtacks
Inside of my shoes

So, I realize that some of my friends and family are probably creationists. Don't worry. I still love you. Don't expect me to respect your view point. The creation myth in Genesis is just that: a myth. It's like all holy books. The word didn't come from God or Godess (add plural as you see fit). It came from man. Humans, by and large, like to tell lies to make themselves feel better about reality instead of facing it.
Reality is nothing that you need fear. The whole of existence is varied in its wonder and splendor. If you are a deist, then embrace that when you look upon the truth of the beauty of the world. If you are an atheist, you can still embrace that same beauty when you look on it.

Remember, the stories we tell ourselves and told ourselves when we were newly coming into this thing we call consciousness are good for remembering where we came from. If we continue to enslave ourselves to these stories then all it will breed is ignorance and hate.

The creationist myths and all the other myths, have their place in schools and society: as cultural education. Not the science classroom.
