Birth into Darkness
She felt it grow within her; a darkness so profound that at first, she was afraid of it. But the darkness within whispered sweet nothings and empty promises in her dreams, till soon, her fear became a desperate, unrequited love. She nurtured that darkness within herself until she became nigh unto pregnant with it. That stygian darkness had an aura that tainted everything she did or touched.
Once upon a time, she would leave laughter and grace in her wake. After her acceptance and subsequent obsession with the shadows, she left behind unrest, anger, and tears.
Those friends she had made before, dropped her like a diseased hand, rejecting her so thoroughly and utterly that the only companion she was left with was herself. After watching everything she had been go up in flames, she gave birth to her new self in a spray of innocent blood.
She could smile now, when she looked in the mirror.
I wrote that little blurb after a bad day. Sometimes, it feels good to purge oneself of all those horrible thoughts and acknowledge not only the mood, but the shadows in ones head. This piece is a few years old; it was one of the pieces that I typed up the other day. I may use it later, as it still resonates with me.
Anyway, I am feeling the Benadryl start to take effect, so it's probably better that I step away from the keyboard...

This piece is EXCELLENT! I have had those same feelings before, but never found a way to express it. Bravo, Becca! Bravo!
Thank you, Mom. :) I am glad that you liked it. The original piece is much rougher than that one. That sort of polishing up is what can happen when one comes back and looks at something after a couple of years... Pass it around and spread the word about the blog!
